Returning Libby Books Sent to Kindle Early

Mom goes to the library A LOT. I usually hit "buy now" on Amazon and open whatever book interests me at that moment, when I don't have another book ready to go. She's been recommending I use the library more, but I hadn't been really doing so, until Libby came along. The OverDrive rewrite has been nice, and it works on the devices I need it to work on, so I jumped on the library bandwagon. For some of the books, I can wait, which is good, have you seen my reading stack?

So, I load the books up on Libby, and start reading, highlighting the various parts that I want to quote in my book reviews. Going along, la la la, I go to export my highlights and, and, and WTF, there is no highlight export feature? How is there no export feature of highlights? WHAT IS THIS?

Okay, Libby has a "Send to Kindle" option. I can read a book I've borrowed from the library via Libby on the Kindle? Hot damn! So, I send the book to the Kindle, except, if I send a book to the Kindle, it is locked ON the Kindle, I can't return the book early when I've finished reading it, and how much does that suck that a book will sit around with no one reading it, everyone loses.

Well, it turns out, you CAN return the book early, but you need to go to Amazon to do it. Hot damn, I can read a book on my kindle, make highlights, EXPORT said highlights, AND return the book when I'm done!

So, how do I do this?

  1. Log into Amazon (of course).

  2. In the top header, hover over the "Accounts & Lists" link, opening the tab.

  3. Click on "Your Content and Devices"

  4. Find the title in the "Your Content" list.

  5. Click the Actions box next to the title you want to return early.

  6. Then Select "Return this book" in the pop-up window.

  7. Select Yes to confirm and return the book.

A little extra effort, but I have highlights that export AND I can return a book early!

Hot damn, I love libraries again!
