One of the requirements of new commercial construction in the Bay Area is public artwork. All new construction needs to include some in the public areas of the buildings.

The shopping center at Mathilda and El Camino has two tiled covered obelisks. This is a tile from one.

Despite the ridiculously cold weather a month ago, and the fact it's January, we still have flowers in the neighborhood. That we have flowers in winter is a surprise that hits me just about every January, even though I've lived in California for 20 years now.
