Who does this?

Blog

Sandie and I wandered into the Starbucks nearest to the Office Depot where she was printing up the UPA staff reports for the annual board of directors meeting. We sat down with our food items and started talking. After a while, I noticed the guy sitting next to Sandie. He was reading "Hopeless Romantics".

A guy. Sitting in a Starbucks corner. Reading Hopeless Romantics.

Is this supposed to make him attractive to women because he's the sensitive type?

Sandie and I eventually made it into work. On our walk from the car to the office, we passed a woman walking to the coffee shop next to the UPA. She was wearing heeled sandals. Now, that's not in and of itself particularly unusual. Except we're in Boulder, Colorado.

And it's 21° outside.

She's in sandals. She's walking across ice and through snowbanks in sandals.

Who does these things?

Different people

Blog

I'm amazed at the different people here at the conference. More importantly, I'm amazed at how we see a slice of (North) American culture here at the conference. We all have ultimate and league organization in common, but the rest is so varied!

About 1/4 - 1/3 of the people here are women. The ages range from two years out of high school to possible grandfather. The athleticism ranges from elite player to never played. We have the Canadian representatives. There is the pretty boy, the cowboy stereotype, the quiet soccer (ultimate?) mom, the enthusiastic college kid, the overwhelmed organizer, the control freak, and the big teddy bear.

The ideas coming out of the conference is amazing. I had never considered the core/click league. Multiple baggage is so strongly discouraged in SBUL, I never thought others did it.

I'm so inspired!

UPA League Conference

Blog

Today is the first day of the UPA's League Conference, a gather of many of the leaders and organizers of ultimate leagues around the country (well, continent, Shiellah Quintos of CUPA is also here).

After the first presentation, I'm incredibly inspired to both improve SBUL, grow MPUL and get start NCUL to tie them all together.

The first thing, though, I think I need to do is get a captains' package up onto the SBUL site. Passing along the knowledge is a tremendously great idea, and I'm smacking myself upside the head for not thinking of it in the first place.

Another trip

Blog

Another trip to Colorado. This time is for a league conference. I'm very excited about the conference. I'll be meeting up with other ultimate players who also organize leagues around the country. I've been talking to Mike about my 'league in a box' idea, and he believes it's a great idea. (Yes, another Great Idea TM. I need to get more of them done. Let Great Ideas TM, more action.)

I am, however, nervous about the trip. Kris is home sick, having come down with a viral infection of some sort. He was non-functioning yesterday and only semi-functioning today. I hate to leave him alone when he's ill. He, of course, was never ill before he met me. I mean, he couldn't have been because he didn't have me there to take care of him.

I'm also flying on a new airline for me. Not being a particularly good flyer, new airlines, or anything out of my comfort zone when flying for that matter, are stressful for me. Make that disstressful. Coupled with the fact that I'm flying alone and we have here one unhappy woman.

On the other hand, it'll be four days with Elizabeth and Sandie. Now that'll be a great four days!
