Swarm!

Blog

"So, I went to dump the scraps in the compost bin this morning. As I was walking back into the house, I saw a bee buzzing me, and heard a lot, and turned to look in the direction of the noise. And there was the hive, three feet from my face."

The swarm was, as Andy put it, the biggest swarm he had ever seen. Each of the two humps in the swarm was the size of a normal swarm. There being two beards means wow, it was a big swarm.

Andy went over at lunch to box it up and move it elsewhere. He checked, and the swarm turned out not to have escaped from Kris' hive. Kris doesn't want a second hive, so it's going off to another house.

Pretty exciting!

Must Resist

Blog

I have a large number of teapots.

I would argue, I have more teapots than one who drinks teas actually needs.

I would also argue that said tea drinker likely doesn't really need anything more than one teapot: the one that works for her.

Which is why, really, I need to resist purchasing one of these:

Shroooooooom!

Andy was all excited when he found these mushrooms in the side yard.

I can completely and totally understand. I mean, read the Wikipedia article:

Morchella, the true morels, is a genus of edible mushrooms closely related to anatomically simpler cup fungi. These distinctive fungi appear honeycomb-like, with their cap composed of a network of ridges with pits. Morels are sought by thousands of enthusiasts every spring for their supreme taste and the joy of the hunt, and are highly prized by gourmet cooks, particularly in French cuisine.

I think they're really cool looking, even if they sorta make me want to puke when I look at them, what with their holes and all.
